Virtual Exhibition

Inter/net/Connections

There are many ways to view art. The gallery is one source of art viewing. Museums and the outdoor are another way. What happens if the space is on a larger scale? What does it mean for everyone to have access to art? Does it change the meaning of your piece or does it give it more meaning?

It’s a virtual exhibition, intended to be used by the internet for large scale viewing.

Inter/net/Connections is strictly a show to be viewed on a computer or phone screen. All work is featured on our online gallery page instead of in the brick and motor space of Project Three Gallery. Work that is accepted is be digital by design, originally created to be viewed on a screen.

History Repeats Itself

Cassandra Harner

Performance // 2016

This piece was made in an exhibition at Ground Floor Gallery in Nashville TN, built by the artist Katie Hargrave. Kay-T Critiques is a persona "born" in 2013 and developed into my BFA thesis, and continues to appear today, after 38 videos, and over 6 gallery shows. This particular piece, History Repeats Itself, was made during the presidential campaign, before Trump was elected. During this period of time, Kay-T appeared in this piece, as a part of a series of video and music in a project called "Locker Room Talk."

Marooned

Christopher L Falcione

Digital drawing// 2018

I was on a beach walking passed a woman sunbathing on a lounge chair near a sparkling pool of water, as I continued walking I saw these black lines hopping around like kangaroos...I needed to manifest this into our reality. Seeing these abstract lines as a moving figure hugely inspired me and reminded me of how two-dimensional existences do not always need to exist in our dimensional existence. My goal as an artist is turn the world on its head and inside out and folded in half like a paper airplane. That may not make sense to you but that is exactly my point. Our subconscious minds have the power to create things that can not exist in the physical world, which is why I must find ways to manifest these existences because it is a fun challenge to figure out the most effective way to translate it into our reality.

3rd Eye Activation in the Fabric of Time

Katlin Shae

stop motion animation video made with hand woven fabric // 2016

This piece is one of three stop motion animation works I created during graduate school, a first ever exploration into video as an art medium. I am interested in the grid and how it permeates our physical, conceptual and metaphorical space to reference time through weaving (what I refer to as my Mesh Theory). I made these works as an attempt to connect this concept and the physicality of my studio practice to the digital space of the internet network, as the world wide web is just one example of The Mesh on a hyper-objective scale in our everyday lives. All three videos were made to be viewed in loop setting addressing infinity.

Towel Scan 2

Joshua Humm

Digital // 2015

This body, consisting of eight hi-res scans from the same towel, was created as a kind of "digital upcycling". This towel was used to clean my brushes of oil and acrylic paint while working on several small studies and experiments. Upon completion of these works, I found the towel slightly muddied and dancing with marks and colors. I took interest in this byproduct of painting more than paintings I intentionally created. By scanning and digitizing this familiar yet odd item, new interest arose. Texture and color had been reduced to pixels. Edges remain on two sides of these scans, alluding to the physicality of the item itself as well the traditional display of a painting. The eight scans share a similar arrangement, with marks and colors borrowed from one another, creating a deeper dialogue between themselves and the viewer.

Cosmic Queen Saturn Sounds (Radio Waves)

Scream Punch

Cassie Harner

Performance // 2015

Scream Punch is a video by Kay-T Critiques, during the development of my BFA thesis. It has the most views on YouTube of all of Kay-T's projects and marked a refocusing moment in Kay-T's development of video making and persona. Kay-T references obscure moments of D-List viral videos and the moment when a man went to jail for punching a hole in a Monet original canvas. She reinterprets these into her own performance. She also remains on brand with her love-hate relationship with painting.

The Day Pigs Fly

Christopher L Falcione

Untitled

Ian Marshall

Oil Paint / 2017

Part of my senior thesis project of early 2000s computer software texture mapping. Composition derived from various screenshots taken in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Upon completion of the painting, the work was then integrated back into the game to be viewed while playing, virtual gallery-style.

MUwDV: The Akron Sessions

Danny Volk

8 episodes of varying lengths // 2016

Made-Up with Danny Volk is a promotional platform where artists in their studios talk about life and art while doing the host's make-up. MUwDV has lived for the past 6 seasons as a video series, but this 7th season in Akron OH inaugurates the project as 8 live performances around the Akron area, showcasing the work and talent of artists living, working and affiliated with the Akron arts community. Danny uses the make-up intervention to destabilize formal, public conversations about art-making, opening up both artist and viewer to thoughtful and surprising moments along the way.
